In April 2014 Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP with security updates, leaving the operating system vulnerable to malicious software and outside threats.
At Smart, we have continued to support Windows XP users through our Smart Hosted Exchange service. However, this will be changing.
Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 have been using a system called triple data encryption standard (otherwise known as 3DES) to secure incoming and outgoing emails. This has been the highest available encryption method that is compatible with XP.
Unfortunately, 3DES is no longer the most secure option and is now susceptible to attacks that could expose user data. As Smart are committed to ensuring data remains as secure as possible, this means that we will no longer be able to support Windows XP users from 28th February 2017. In order to overcome this, and to remain secure and supported, we recommend that you migrate from Windows XP to a supported Microsoft operating system such as Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10. This will ensure that the Smart Hosted Exchange service can continue without interruption.
Take action
If you are still using Windows XP, to remain protected, you will need to take action before 28th February 2017. Now is the time to switch to Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10. Contact us at Smart to upgrade your Operating System.
