Smart Computers Rental Service – FAQs
Who can rent from Smart Computers?
We offer a range of IT equipment to both private individuals and businesses. However please note, we are unable to provide Apple product rentals to private individuals over a 3 month period.
Do you require a deposit on short term rentals (up to 3 months)?
For rentals required less than 3 months, payment is required upfront (unless you have an account with us). If you are a private individual or start up business and you are looking to rent an Apple Mac or MacBook, we will require a refundable deposit of £500 +VAT per item upfront. This will be credited back to you on return of the equipment.
Do you require a deposit on long term rentals (over 3 months)?
If you are an established business, or an existing customer of Smart Computers, no deposit is required. If you are a private individual or a start up business, a deposit is required. The deposit required will be calculated on the items required and the duration of the rental.
Will you do a credit check on rentals?
If you are renting equipment for over a 3 month period and are a private individual or start up business, we will perform a chargeable credit check as follows:
Private individuals = £5 +VAT non refundable admin fee
Business start up = £20 +VAT non refundable admin fee. We will perform a company credit check on the Directors
Please note – we are unable to provide long term rentals of Apple Macs and MacBooks to private individuals.
Do you require ID?
For all new customers, we require 2 forms of ID confirming delivery address and name.
What IT equipment can I rent?
We supply a wide range of IT products and brands including laptops, computers, servers, Apple Macs, MacBooks and Projectors.
What is the minimum rental period?
The minimum rental period for any of our equipment is 1 day. There is no maximum.
What information will be in the quote?
Our quote will normally contain:
Pricing – You will be quoted in a daily, weekly and monthly rate depending on the length of rental. Vat will be charged on all rentals, including delivery and collection.
Delivery and Collection cost – This will normally be quoted as a total cost covering delivery and collection. We use external couriers to deliver and collect nationwide. They operate between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. We deliver free of charge Cheltenham. You are also more than welcome to collect from our office in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

When do you deliver?
We use DPD couriers to deliver and collect our rental equipment. They operate between 8am and 6pm Monday – Friday. For weekend rentals, we will deliver on a Friday and collect on a Monday. This will not affect your weekend rental price. Please note: we can only deliver rental projector screens within a 1 hour drive from Gloucestershire.
All Delivery and Collections will be made by DPD.
Do you offer technical support?
Yes, we do offer technical support during our business hours. For long term rental contracts (over 3 months), we provide technical support free of charge on the rental equipment, for the duration of the rental period. If you require additional remote support, take a look at our remote support service.
Can you set up our rental equipment for us?
Yes we can. If you require set up as part of your rental package, let us know. This will be quoted as a separate service.
Is the equipment you supply ready for immediate use?
Yes. All of our laptops, desktops, Apple Macs, Projectors, screens and any additional equipment are shipped ready for immediate use.
What if I need additional software?
Smart Computers are able to install most software licences on to the rental equipment for your use at an additional cost. Alternatively, you are able to download the software you require on to our machines.
I am unsure of my exact requirements?
If you aren’t sure of the equipment you require, drop us an email or give us a call. Our team are able to offer advice on many aspects of our products and their applications. Based on what you need we can recommend suitable products.
Do the laptops and desktops come with Windows?
Yes, we install Windows 10 as standard. If you need Windows 7 installed, a charge is applicable.
Do you provide cables that can be compatible with the equipment I own?
Yes. Just let us know when you enquire what it needs to be compatible with, and we will ensure all the correct cabling is enclosed.
How old is the rental equipment?
Our rental equipment is typically 3 years old or less. The stock we have over 3 years old becomes part of our ex-rental stock that we sell on from time to time.
What happens with the equipment when it’s returned?
All data is wiped securely and the items are restored back to their original state factory settings.

What if I have specific technical requirements?
If you have specific technical requirements, get in touch. We will always try and help.
Do you price match?
Yes on short term rentals (up to 3 months). Although we pride ourselves on our competitive rates and constantly monitor the rental market, there may be occasions when we are beaten on price on short term rentals, therefore we have introduced a price match guarantee.
